So simple! Does anyone else use the giant tubs of pre-minced garlic? I hate mincing garlic because of the smelly fingers afterwards. We’ll also eat these alongside a meat dish, like a steak or baked chicken dish.Īll you need is butter, olive oil, minced garlic, and salt and pepper. I’ll make spaghetti and meatballs, or some type of baked Italian dish like baked ziti or lasagna. We eat them alongside pasta dishes usually. I always keep 1-2 bags of them in the freezer, that way I always have a vegetable on hand to serve with dinners. Check out last week’s post about my favorite Trader Joe’s products, they’re on the list. I use Trader Joe’s frozen green beans because they taste JUST like fresh green beans, except they’re washed and trimmed and ready to be sauteed. I’ll admit they’re probably my fav too, along with roasted zucchini or carrots. He’s not the world’s biggest vegetable fan (although I’m on a mission to lead him down that path), but these he loves. VIDEO: HOW TO MAKE SAUTEED GARLIC GREEN BEANS They are probably my fiance’s favorite vegetable, one that he will always eat, guaranteed. Introducing… my all-time most-often cooked side dish: sauteed green beans. To make these sauteed garlic green beans, you’ll only need 5 ingredients. Serve alongside Italian pasta dinners or a juicy steak. If you can’t find shallot, you can use thinly sliced red onion or 2 garlic cloves.Fresh or frozen green beans are transformed into a garlicky and tender side dish. It adds the allium flavor to this dish that it needs and is the perfect complement to the bacon. The shallot: We love shallots because they aren't quite as strongly flavored as garlic and have a more delicate bite than an onion. If pork isn't your thing, turkey bacon would be a good swap. Pancetta is also a good substitute and would give the dish a bit of an Italian spin. Be sure to adjust the cooking time as it’s not as thick. If you can't find thick-cut bacon, regular will be just fine. The bacon: We like thick-cut bacon for this, so that when you get a bite of bacon, it’s substantial and super-flavorful. Haricots verts are thinner and therefore would require less cooking time, so maybe start checking them at 3 to 4 minutes versus 5 minutes for traditional green beans. They just might be a little more expensive. You’ll need to trim the stem end off of each green bean, and if this feels like too much work, you can always opt for the trimmed beans. Which one to choose? It’s really up to you, but here are a few things to consider. They’ll have a big bin of straight-up green beans, bags of snipped or trimmed beans, and they might even have haricots verts or French green beans. The beans: A well stocked supermarket may have a few different choices when it comes to green beans. It would be so beautiful as part of a holiday feast on the side of a centerpiece roast. The festive flavors and colors are ideal for the holidays and colder months. Some crispy bacon, sweet cranberries, and creamy goat cheese enhance super-nutritious green beans into a Thanksgiving side dish that your family will be cheering for. It takes just a little effort to take eating your vegetables from a “have to” to a “want to,” and this green beans recipe is a perfect example.
